Leo's
Car Crashes

Leo's Car Crashes - of course -
is a crazy name for an internet page.
But - thanx to the search
engines -
it is my best
visited page
with almost 17,000 visitors
from over 100
countries all over the world
since May 2001.
I got the idea from some
colleagues
of the (former) daily newspaper De
Dordtenaar...
In May 2000 I bought a
1993 Suzuki
Swift
because my 1988 Hyundai
Pony
was already old and had something damaged
that costed over 500 Euro to repair.
It was the engine that
was badly damaged.
So I told a colleague-journalist
of the daily regional newspaper De
Dordtenaar
that I crashed the engine
of my car.
Some weeks later another
journalist of De Dordtenaar
asked me when Leo's Car Crashes were on Internet.
He heard I crashed
my car.
...And so you see how a
rumour goes among journalists...
Of course I have some
nice pictures
of my car crashes, so here they come...
Specially for my
colleagues of De Dordtenaar:
The -filed pictures of
Leo's Car Crashes!

Leo's car crash 28
September 1989

It
was a very rainy day.
I had my red 1984 Renault 5 TL 5th Avenue
only for 1 year
when I worked in Utrecht for Business Magazine that time.
I took 2 English hippy hitch-hikers before I drove out of
Utrecht.
A few minutes later I was caught in a traffic congestion
on the A2.
Another
car wanted to change lane to the left
and the driver looked left, but did not see me break in
front of him.
The hippies got out of my car quickly...
We
only drove 15 km/h when this happend,
but still it was a damage of 1,700 Euro
payed by the insurance company of the other party.
Everything you see damaged had to be replaced.
This
car does not exist anymore.

My second car was a black 1988 Hyundai Pony GL 1.5.
I did not have serious
car crashes with this one.

Once
I hit a truck. It made a big hole in my car.
But my garage was in the same
street
and so quick changing parts
that I could not make a photo of it.
The
bill was 550 Euro.
This
car also does not exist anymore...

Leo's car crash 28
September 2000

This time on the bridge
from Papendrecht
to Dordrecht
on the N3
an old man forgot to look to the left
before changing lanes.
He hit my car - a red
1993 Suzuki
Swift GLX 1.3 -
I bought 4 months before
on the right side with 80-90 km/h.
I saw parts of his car
and mine
flying through the air.
This time the damage
costed
the man's insurance company 1,900
Euro.

Some attentive readers must
have noticed.
Both accidents happend on
the same date:
28 September
with an 11
years interval...
...and both accidents
were not my
fault and happend with red
cars!
So I am sure I do not
drive my car on 28 September 2011...
May be I better not drive
red cars on 28 Septembers at all...

...BUT IT DID NOT STOP...

February 2002

On 27 February 2002 I had
another accident...
When I came from a hostage
situation in Dordrecht
I hit another car at the back in front of a traffic light.
The other car hesitated (and
braked) 2 times
before stopping for the red light.
I braked 3 times... but...
it had rained so I slipped a few meters forward.
The bumper and the hood
of my car
hit the towing-hook of a VW
Golf.
The other car only had
some scratches.
On my car the bumper was teared half off.
Nobody was hurt.
This time the insurance
companies said
it was my
fault.
The damage this time was 1,100
Euro on my car
and 300 Euro on the other car...
The picture was made
after the garage
stripped the car for repair.

2003

Eeeuuuhhh...
This time is was not the
famous 28 September
but only 3 days later
and again not
my fault...
When I went to my work at
Radio
Rijnmond in Rotterdam
I was only a few hundred meters from the office.
When I turned right from
the 's-Gravendijkwal to the Mathenesserlaan
a car in front of me stopped because someone crossed the
street.
I also stopped and 1
second later a car hit mine on the back.
When the man that hit me
got out of his car
he started to shout at me. It even wasn't his own car.
He said I was crazy
because I breaked for nothing and he was in a hurry.
He even had not seen the car in front of me.
...and forgot that he was
wrong anyhow...
He said he had no time to
fill in the insurance paper.
Lucky for me a police
car was just there when I needed it.
Thanx to the police
the man filled in the the paper.
The damage was 1.100
Euro
and was payed by the other side's insurance company.

Leo's car crash 23
December 2003

My car was not looking
happy
after we visited Christmas
Circus Royal
in Dordrecht.
...so again the bridge
from Dordrecht
to Papendrecht
...
When I wanted to drive
onto the bridge
the car in front of me braked hard suddenly without a
reason...
Later the driver (he was
not drunk) told me he braked
because he saw a stop sign and the text Go Back!...

...meant for the lane of
the opposite direction
to prevent cars driving into oncoming traffic...
I was just accelerating
when he braked
and the road was wet...

...happily I still could
drive my car...

The damage was 1,400
Euro
and the insurance companies
decided both parties were wrong.
So we both had to pay
half of the damage...

On the last picture you
can see
I used duck tape (or duct tape)
and a white H&M
shopping bag
to repair the front light of my car.
Well, there is a site all
about
the use of the very handy duck tape.
That is why you also can
see this picture
on the special duct
tape site
on this
page.

Leo's car change - 19
March 2007
Till 19 March 2007 Leo
drove around with his Suzuki Swift.
But the car was getting older with almost 200,000 km on
the counter
and it was very expensive to keep the car on the road.

Leo did not get anything
for the old car.
Only 2 days later it was
sold for only 75 Euro.
The new owner worked on it for 5 months
and since 21 August 2007 it is on the road again.
On Monday 19 March 2007
Leo bought another car - a 1995 Ford
Escort CLX 1.6i

...it did not have any
car crashes
but Leo did not keep it for a long time...

Leo's other car change -
30 July 2008
Till 27 July 2008 Leo
drove around with his Ford Escort.
But the car had some serious problems with the cooling
system
and it was very expensive to keep the car on the road.

On Wednesday 30 July 2008
Leo bought another car -
a black 2002 Volkswagen Polo 1.4 Highline.

All cars were bought,
maintained and repaired
by Autobedrijf
105 in Dordrecht.
