Leo at train accident - Barendrecht - 25 October 2000

Only a few hundred metres from the train station of Barendrecht
on 25 October 2000 round 00.00 AM a 1500 Volt overhead wire broke
and fell on the train. There was a very small fire on the outside and the train stopped.

Because the Dutch Railways was thinking the train stopped in Zwijndrecht
the police, ambulances and fire department were sent there.

After only 1 hour they found out it was located almost 10 km from there
between the stations of Barendrecht and Rotterdam-Lombardijen.

All the time almost 250 passengers stayed in the train
without any lights or fresh air. The could leave the train after almost 2 hours.
Nobody was hurt.

I interviewed one of the passengers live with my mobile phone in the news bulletin
and made a report about this national news on
Radio Rijnmond.
