Leo at train crash with car - Sliedrecht - Holland - 24 June 2001

1 Gathering information from the police 2 Bringing it live in the one o'clock news
3 Interviewing spokesman Teun Kik 4 Recording railroad sounds for later

Just
driving home from a party of Susy's family in Waalwijk
at the early Sunday night 24 June 2001
I was called about a fire in the Sophia rail tunnel near Papendrecht.
My colleague was already there, but I was very interested.
I was
there round midnight, but after a few minutes there was another
fire alarm.
At the railroad crossing with the Zwijnskade in
Sliedrecht a car hit a train.
I went home to get my recorder.
The car
went on fire immediately after the crash.
A 30 years old man from Groot-Ammers died instantly,
a 31 years old man from Bleskensgraaf
and a 22 years old man from Wijngaarden
got badly injured.
The
train could not go any further because of the damages.
The 12 people in the train were unharmed
and were transported by busses.
On
Thursday 21 March 2002 the driver had to come
in the Dordrecht Court of Justice.
The OM
asked for 180 hours of alternative punishment.
The judges will decide on 4 April 2002.
I was
live in the 1 o'clock news and made a report
with spokesman Teun Kik of the police ZHZ
and I made updates on 21 March (and 4 April 2002)
about this national news on Radio Rijnmond.
