Hospital Press Conference Dordrecht 18 March 2002

On Monday morning 18 March 2002 I heard on the morning news about
an accident with a trailer and a Dutch
tourist coach near Metz in France at night.

An Italian trailer drove through the crash barrier of the A31 between Metz and Nancy
to the other side of the highway and crashed head-on
with a coach with 61 Dutch tourists going home from a ski holiday.
French police thinks the truck driver either fell ill or dozed off.

In the accident 7 people were killed. 5 of them came from Holland.
50 people in the coach were injured, some very bad.

Only a few hundred meters behind the Dutch bus there was another Dutch tourist bus
full of physician and nurses of the
Albert Schweitzer Hospital (ASZ) from Dordrecht
coming back from a personel ski weekend.

They took care of the first aid of the people in the bus
before the French medical assistance took over.

After they arrived in the hospital in Dordrecht in the afternoon
two of the physician held a press conference in the hospital.

ASZ Aspect 23 March 2002

• The 23 March 2002 issue of the ASZ-magazine Aspect had an article about this.
Above you can see which photo they used to anounce it on the cover page...

I interviewed the gynaecologist Leen Pijpers (in the red jacket)
for the afternoon news program
about this
world news on Radio Rijnmond.
