Minister Of State visit to Biezenlanden 8 April 2002

On Monday afternoon 8 April 2002 State Secretary Johan Remkes for Housing
brought a visit to the sustainable building project Biezenlanden
at the Makoré in the district
Oudelandshoek in Dordrecht.

The 47 'sustainable' houses were built only 2 years ago,
but so bad that 23 have to be pulled down immediately.

Bad thing is that the owners of the houses already saw
during the building of the houses everything was going wrong.

It is the first time in history that something like this happend in Holland.

Of course the owners of the houses want their money back
but the builders became bankrupt.

So they went to the contingency fund Woningborg,
but they only want to pay a part of the costs.

The Municipality of Dordrecht also made some mistakes
at controlling the building of the houses
so they also have to pay some - and they do.

But all the money - 10 million Euro - still is not enough to cover the costs.
So the owners are still in a struggle with Woningborg and Dordrecht.

Because of the special situation
the State Secretary Remkes came to look himself.

Remkes said what happend was shockingly
and should not happen again in Holland.
But he did not bring any money.
He promised to discuss the contingency fund.

I interviewed him and the other parties
and made a reportage for the afternoon news program
about this national news on
Radio Rijnmond.
