Rijnmond has to fire 37 people
to get the company healthy.
This is a quarter
of the manpower of the regional radio and TV station.
There even is no money for a social plan. The Province has to pay
for that.
This appeared after an investigation
ordered by the Province Council of South-Holland.

The audit concludes that especially
the personnel costs swelled up,
by which the income of subsidy and advertising
are not sufficient any more to meet the costs.
Also the advertising revenue stays behind considerable now
because of the economic recession.

If the Province does not help
the broadcast corporation is bankrupt in a few months.
The other
South-Holland broadcasting corporation RTV
West
is in an even more precarious situatation than RTV Rijnmond.

the board of RTV Rijnmond took its first measures:

the chief
editor of Radio Rijnmond was sacked
and the chief editor of TV Rijnmond suspended.
On 16 December 2003
the Province decided to help
but still 37 people have to be fired at RTV Rijnmond...
First they stopped
hiring freelancers
and ended short contracts.
On Wednesday
morning 28 January 2004
29 of my colleagues were fired...
