Leo at ministers press conference - Dordrecht - Holland - 14 February 2000
The
plenipotentiary minister C.P. de Haseth of The Netherlands
Antilles,
minister Rogier van Boxtel of big cities, mayor Jan Noorland of Dordrecht and
minister of state Gijs de Vries of home affairs visited Dordrecht
on
Monday 14 February 2000 to talk about the problems
with the Antillian people in Dordrecht.
In 1999
over 600 people from The Netherlands Antilles came to Dordrecht
and a few of them cause problems, see the photo at the bottom of
this page...
However
Dordrecht wanted more money to solve the problems,
Van Boxtel asked Dordrecht to talk first with 6 other cities
with same problems before asking for money.
De Vries told he made new regulations to make it more difficult
for Antillian people to come to Holland. At the Antillian
airports will
be checked if migrants to Holland speak Dutch sufficiently.
To solve the problems at The Netherlands Antilles,
De Haseth told he fired 30% of the Antillian officials to get
more
money for social and economic injections.
I made
some reports about it on Radio Rijnmond.
